Attorney General Alan Wilson announces 16-year sentence for Lancaster Co. man who hid camera in bathroom

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announces that a Lancaster County man has pleaded guilty to hiding a camera in a bathroom and recording young girls showering. On April 9th, William Brandon Lee Campbell pleaded guilty to two counts of Voyeurism and one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 2nd degree. The Honorable Judge Brian Gibbons sentenced Campbell to 16 years in prison.

In December 2020, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Campbell had placed a camera in a home in Indian Land in Lancaster County and had recorded video of young girls showering. Investigators searched Campbell’s home and seized several electronic devices. They found images and videos of at least two minors. Campbell admitted to putting the camera in the bathroom to secretly record the young girls. He also admitted to being attracted to young girls for a few years but denied ever physically touching the girls.

Judge Gibbons sentenced Campbell to 16 years in prison: three years on each of the two Voyeurism charges and 10 years on the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 2nd degree charges, all to run consecutively. He will be given credit for approximately 95 days of time served and will have to register as a Sex Offender upon his release from prison.

Attorney General Wilson would like to thank Investigator Paul Lyons with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and Detective Andrew Key with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for all their hard work on this case. A big thank you also to Glynna Fogle, Christina Collier, and all of our victim services division for fielding countless phone calls from victims, setting up phone conferences, and helping to make sure that they could all provide their victim impact statements to the Court.
