SC Attorney General Alan Wilson Announces 125 Charges Against 24 People in Major Drug Case

(MARION, S.C.)- March 5, 2018-  South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced today 125 charges against 24 people in a major drug investigation across three counties in the Pee Dee. The case is known as “Gimme the Loot” and took place in Horry, Marion, and Florence counties. The defendants are charged with various offenses, including trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine, trafficking crack, trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking marijuana, and money laundering.

The investigation was led by the Attorney General’s State Grand Jury section and the State Law Enforcement Division and involved the Marion County Combined Drug Unit, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Marion Police Department, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, the Florence Police Department, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Drug Enforcement Unit, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

“I want to thank all of the hard work of the men and women of the State Grand Jury division of the Attorney General’s Office as well as the outstanding work of the men and women in law enforcement who are on the front lines of this battle,” Attorney General Wilson said. “I’m committed to using the full resources of the Attorney General’s office to fight the war on drugs and put these dealers where they belong.”

The State Grand Jury returned three indictments:

--Horry County: 23 defendants charged with 14 counts: trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine, trafficking crack, and trafficking marijuana, among others

--Marion County: 13 defendants charged with 53 counts: distribution of crack, distribution of methamphetamine, money laundering, and trafficking heroin

--Florence County: 2 defendants, trafficking crack

In the three counties, there are 24 defendants, 68 total counts, and 125 total charges.

Attorney General Wilson stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
