Man pleads guilty to sending explicit photo to 14-year-old

(MARION, S.C.) – Aug. 9, 2018 - Attorney General Alan Wilson announces that Shawn Donald Martindell pleaded guilty today to one count of Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Person Under 18 Years of Age, a mandatory sex offender registry offense. He entered the plea in Marion County in front of Judge Kristi Curtis.

In February of 2017, a mother made an incident report with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office alleging that Shawn Donald Martindell sent a sexually explicit image to her 14-year-old daughter.

Martindell was subsequently interviewed by Lt. Darren Miles with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, also a member of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.  During the interview Martindell admitted to sending the sexually explicit image to the victim.

Martindell was sentenced to 3 years, suspended to 2 years’ probation.  During probation he is prohibited from having any contact with the victim and from having unsupervised contact with minors.
