Attorney General’s Office Supports Launch of Multi-County Regional Human Trafficking Task Force

(Columbia, S.C.) – August 27, 2018 - The South Carolina Office of the Attorney General announces the launch of the Multi-County Regional Human Trafficking Task Force on Tuesday, August 28th at 10 AM. The Attorney General’s office, as the Chair of the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force, is supporting the regional task force co-chairs, the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Person and Aiken Public Safety Department. The meeting will be held at the Cumbee Center, 254 Beaufort Street NE, Aiken, SC.

“As successful as the statewide Human Trafficking Task Force has been, I believe that to win this war on human trafficking we must conduct as much of the fight as possible at the local level,” Attorney General Wilson said.

“The launching of this task force will provide an avenue for all participants to coordinate knowledge, skills, and resources in order to combat human trafficking in the areas that we serve,” said Susan Selden, Executive Director of the Cumbee Center. “We have received positive responses from law enforcement agencies, nonprofits, schools, churches, and community members who are passionate about the potential we will have to bring awareness, education, and victim services to these counties.”

“The State Task Force continues to support regional task force efforts given the importance of coordinating anti-human trafficking efforts at the community level,” said Kathryn Moorehead, Coordinator of the SC Human Trafficking Task Force. “The Attorney General’s Office is eager to support the launch of the six-county regional initiative as we all strive to better educate the public, prevent the crime, and support victims and survivors of human trafficking throughout South Carolina.”

The Multi-County Regional Task Force will include representatives from six counties including Saluda, McCormick, Edgefield, Aiken, Barnwell, and Allendale. For more information, please contact Robert Kittle at rkittle@scag.gov
