FREE clinic coming up in Sumter for veterans & service members with legal needs

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – Nov. 2, 2018 - Veterans, members of the Reserves, and active-duty members of the military are invited to a FREE legal clinic on November 10th in Sumter. One of the hallmarks of the legal profession is its demonstrated commitment to service to the military, veterans, and their spouses. The Veterans, Active/Reserve Legal Out-Reach program, or V.A.L.O.R., aims to provide legal resources for the military and veterans through legal clinics and referral services to heavily-discounted legal resources.

On November 10th, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Patriot Hall (Sumter County Cultural Center, 135 Haynsworth Street, Sumter SC), the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office V.A.L.O.R. Program will conduct a legal clinic. Multiple attorneys from the Sumter community will donate their time at the Sumter V.A.L.O.R. clinic. Attorneys will assist with writing wills, power of attorney documents, and provide limited legal consultation on issues that do not involve criminal matters.

“The legal profession has always recognized it has a moral obligation to support those who defend the freedoms we treasure,” explains Attorney General Alan Wilson, who is also a Colonel in the SC National Guard and a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. “This program will better connect veterans and members of the military with the legal help they need and may not know where to get, or may not be able to afford.”

For more information on this program, please visit www.SCVALOR.com or call the referral line (803)734-VETS to make an appointment for this clinic.
