Attorney General Alan Wilson part of 20-state coalition supporting ICE

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – Nov. 5, 2018 - South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has joined a multi-state coalition in a letter to Congressional leadership in support of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Over the past few months, ICE has endured calls for its abolishment, even though the breadth and depth of the agency's efforts are critical to public safety. State attorneys general heavily rely on the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), which ICE is under, for their assistance in investigating criminal trafficking and financial operations involving foreign entities. General Wilson's office also works with HSI on many of the cyber-crime arrests of child predators throughout the state.

"ICE provides critical support to South Carolina’s law enforcement efforts and conducts its own important law enforcement activities that preserve the safety of our communities," said Attorney General Wilson. "Abolishing ICE would be a heavy blow to our efforts to preserve the rule of law and protect America's citizens."

The effort is being led by Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry. "The 'abolish ICE' movement is nothing more than a political stunt brought on by those who place politics above public safety," said Attorney General Landry. "It is unfortunate that many Democrats have endorsed this dangerous movement."

South Carolina was joined in the letter by AG's from Louisiana, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
