Beaufort County Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) - Nov. 23, 2018 - South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Mitchell Thomas Campbell (age 26) of Beaufort, S.C., on two charges connected to the exploitation of a minor.  Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office made the arrest.  Investigators with the Attorney General's Office, also a member of the state's ICAC Task Force, assisted with the investigation.  

 

Investigators state Campbell possessed child pornography and sent nude images to a minor victim via social media.

 

Campbell was arrested on November 20, 2018.  He is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree (§16-15-410), a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment; and one count of disseminating obscene material to a person under age eighteen (§16-15-345), a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.

 

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.

 

Attorney General Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
