Attorney General Wilson announces prison sentence for Greenville Co. man on child porn charges

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) - Dec. 5, 2018 - After one-and-a-half days of trial testimony, Kevin Mark Willson pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 3rd Degree before Judge Edward Miller in Greenville County. Willson was represented by Jim Bannister.

In June of 2015, Special Investigator Kevin Atkins of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit was sent two child pornography files from an electronic device located at the residence of Kevin Mark Willson in Taylors, SC. Investigator Atkins secured a search warrant and executed it at the defendant’s home with the assistance of other members of the AG’s ICAC Unit and deputies from the Greenville Sheriff’s Office.  They seized several electronic devices from the home.  Investigators Chris Bomar and David Grubbs examined the devices and found thousands of additional child pornography files.

Willson was sentenced on the first count to 10 years in prison, suspended to eight years in prison plus five years of probation.  On the second count, Willson was sentenced to 10 years in prison consecutive to the first sentence, suspended to five years of probation.

Attorney General Alan Wilson said, “Our ICAC Investigators (Atkins, Bomar and Grubbs) were superb at trial.  Without their knowledgeable and confident testimony before the jury we would not have been able to secure the guilty plea.”
