State Grand Jury Indicts Two Chesterfield County Public Officials; Charged with Misconduct in Office

(COLUMBIA, S.C.)   South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the State Grand Jury has returned indictments against Ritchie C. Rollings and Harold Reuben Hainey, both public officials in Chesterfield County.  They are each charged with one (1) count of Misconduct in Office, a common law misdemeanor punishable by up to ten (10) years in prison.

Rollings is Chesterfield County Jail Administrator and is charged for misusing and failing to properly supervise State inmates at the Chesterfield County Detention Center.  Harold Hainey is Emergency Management Director and is charged for misusing and failing to properly supervise the same state inmates on loan to the Detention Center from the Department of Corrections.  He is also Assistant County Manager.  Hainey was employed as a captain at the Sheriff's Department prior to moving to Emergency Management.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.

Attorney General Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
