Constituent Assistance

The Attorney General is one of the State’s Constitutional Officers. While the Attorney General does not have jurisdiction over many areas of the law, including family court matters, probate court, private disputes, or private litigation, General Wilson would like to offer you the following resources that may be of some assistance.

Here you can find information regarding consumer affairs, personal legal issues, or other concerns that directly affect you and your family.

While the Office of the Attorney General cannot provide private citizens with legal assistance, the Lawyer Referral Service at the South Carolina Bar can assist you in contacting an attorney in South Carolina with expertise relevant to your situation. The Lawyer Referral Service may be reached at 1-800-868-2284, or online.

I have a complaint against a private business.

The Department of Consumer Affairs assists consumers with inquiries and complaints against businesses that operate in South Carolina. If you have questions about the state lemon law, telemarketing, or collections; representatives from their office can assist you.
