Prosecution

The attorney general has the authority to prosecute cases statewide. When a solicitor has a conflict of interest in a case, he may ask to be excused. Then, the Prosecution Section of the Attorney General’s Office will assign the case to an assistant attorney general. The prosecuting attorney will travel to the jurisdiction where the crime was committed to represent the State, or people.

A victim counselor will be assigned to your case. The counselor will help you understand your rights as a crime victim and inform you of services that are available to you. You may be asked to fill out  and RETURN a Victim Impact Statement. The RETURN of the VICTIM IMPACT FORM  is crucial.  This statement will follow your case through the entire criminal justice proceeding  and with out it’s RETURN you may not receive  timely notification of any post-conviction actions.

The counselor will also provide you with referrals for compensation and help you register with other agencies. Your participation  is vital to the successful pursuit of justice.
