The Office of Attorney General Alan Wilson celebrates victory over woke ideology in classrooms

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – The office of Attorney General Alan Wilson announced today that the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld an Oklahoma law that banned school employees from teaching that one race or sex is inherently superior to another.

Attorney General Wilson led an 18-state friend-of-the-court brief arguing that the First Amendment “protects the right of citizens to speak freely, not the right to compel others--private persons or the government--‘to supply information.’” The brief also notes that a previous circuit court held that the Free Speech Clause did not require the government to “retain certain materials or instruction in the curriculum of its primary and secondary public schools.”

“Our schools are supposed to be places of learning and collaboration, not indoctrination into woke ideologies that assign blame or condemnation based on race or sex,” Attorney General Wilson stated.

A similar lawsuit was filed in South Carolina against a provision in state law, and Attorney General Wilson won in that case as well.
