Basic Core Trainings
To complete your VSP certification, all new Basic VSPs must complete a 15-hour Basic Core training within their first year of employment.
Basic Core trainings are hosted all year long across the state by different organizations.

You must already have a VSP number to register for a Basic Core training. To apply for a VSP number, click here.
Please note, VSPs who are employed with a children's advocacy center or a solicitor's office will receive their Basic Core training through an internal training process. If you are a VSP who specializes in human trafficking, your Basic Core training will be arranged by the SC Human Trafficking Taskforce.

Registration for Members & Affiliates: January 11th – 15th

Registration for General VSPs: August 14th - 20th
Introductory Meeting: Tuesday, August 24th from 2:00 – 3:00 pm
Large Group Meeting: Tuesday, November 16th from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
CVST will host its annual basic core training for 2026 in West Columbia from October 13th - 15th, 2026. This training is designed to impart the knowledge and skills that victim service providers need to serve victims. The topics covered will include South Carolina victims’ rights and statutes, crime victim compensation, ethics, the criminal justice system and court procedures, communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, and self-care, as well as four hours of specialized training.
Registration has closed for 2026.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN) will co-sponsor this Basic Core Training from December 2nd - December 4th, 2026 in Orangeburg, SC.
