Attorney General Alan Wilson announces conviction and sentence in Sumter murder case

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) - South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that Travis Wright, 45, of Sumter, was convicted of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime by a Sumter County jury on Friday afternoon after a weeklong jury trial.

Wright was charged with the August 5, 2023, midday killing of 25-year-old Sumter resident Adrian McCray outside of a local convenience store. The Honorable S. Bryan Doby sentenced Wright to 45 years.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General John P. Meadors and Caroline A. Hughes. The case was investigated by the Sumter Police Department.
