(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that on September 25th, Matthew Wilbanks Hall, 42, pleaded guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree in Lancaster before the Honorable Judge Daniel Coble.
The investigation of Hall began when Lancaster Police responded to an unrelated road rage incident in the City of Lancaster, SC. An examination of Hall’s phone during that investigation located files of child sexual abuse material, which prompted the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office to seek a search warrant for Hall’s home in Lancaster. Investigators seized several electronic devices, on which were found additional files of child sexual abuse material. During his interview with investigators, Hall admitted responsibility for the files.
Judge Coble sentenced Hall to five years in prison, with credit for 905 days he’s already served. He will have to register as a sex offender upon his release.
Assistant Attorney General Stephen Ryan prosecuted the case.
