(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that, on July 20, 2023, Jorge Mario Cano Chinchilla pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor in Berkeley County before the Honorable Roger Young, Sr.
In February 2023, the Goose Creek Police Department conducted a proactive undercover investigation into the use of chat sites for the criminal solicitation of children in Berkeley County. On February 17, 2023, an undercover investigator, who is a member of the ICAC Task Force, posed as a 13-year-old girl online. While online, a person later identified to be Jorge Mario Cano Chinchilla reached out to the undercover investigator. After being told that he was speaking to a 13-year-old, Cano Chinchilla sent multiple photographs of his penis and asked the minor for sex. Cano Chinchilla, after determining the 13-year-old’s location, traveled to a pre-determined location in Berkeley County for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with the minor.
Judge Young sentenced Cano Chinchilla to five years in prison, with credit for 154 days he’s already served. He must register as a sex offender when he is released. Cano Chinchilla will be deported subject to this conviction.
Desiree Schnackenberg investigated this case. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Johnson prosecuted for the state.
