(COLUMBIA, S.C.) –South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson made the following statement applauding a House Judiciary Subcommittee for passing H.4764.
“During the Biden administration, we saw a historic rise in illegal immigration. This disaster has led to an increase in crime across the country and a strain on state and federal law enforcement resources. As our state’s chief prosecutor, I know the mandate that law enforcement has to keep our citizens and communities safe. H.4764 provides a standard in South Carolina that we will cooperate with federal law and immigration enforcement. By working with our federal partners, we will bring justice to those who endanger our communities and prevent the violence we see in sanctuary cities and states.”
The bill would allow law enforcement agencies operating correctional facilities to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and federal immigration law, and provide a training program for law enforcement agencies that enforce federal immigration law.
In 2025, Attorney General Wilson wrote a letter to South Carolina sheriffs urging them to partner with federal immigration authorities by joining the 287G program. You can read that letter here.
