Attorney General Alan Wilson applauds SCOTUS win for free speech

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) –South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson made the following statement regarding today's SCOTUS decision in a challenge to Colorado’s ban on so-called “conversion therapy.” The law effectively banned professional counselors from helping kids work through confusion about gender or sexuality unless they took a woke, affirming approach. Attorney General Wilson previously joined a 21-state coalition supporting Ms. Chiles’ right to free speech in her professional capacity as a counselor.

“Today's decision by the Supreme Court affirms what our Constitution has long guaranteed. A citizen should not have to choose between making a living and retaining their right to speak freely. The court's 8-1 decision in favor of a Christian counselor further cements the right to free speech, regardless of opposition from woke gender ideologues. I defended freedom of speech in Columbia when the city council tried this, and I will continue to protect South Carolinians from unconstitutional bans."
