(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson issued the following statement following the State Fiscal Accountability Authority’s approval of a settlement agreement in the Captain Sams Spit lawsuit:
"Today, the State Fiscal Accountability approved a settlement of a lawsuit concerning Captain Sams Spit, a dispute that originated in 2009. The decision to settle this litigation saved South Carolina taxpayers up to $200 million or more. For this reason, Governor Henry McMaster voted in favor of this settlement today, and the House of Representatives included it in a budget that passed that chamber in an overwhelmingly bipartisan fashion. The budget item is now in the Senate."
Since General Wilson has been in office, his efforts have recovered more than $2 billion for the state of South Carolina.
