(COLUMBIA, S.C.) –South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson made the following statement regarding the debate of H.4763 in the House Judiciary Committee.
“Every South Carolinian has the right to peacefully assemble and express their views. But, as we’ve seen across the country, protestors are becoming increasingly violent and preventing law enforcement from doing their jobs. We cannot allow that to happen in our state.
“The legislature can send a clear message today: If you choose to engage in unlawful conduct by harassing a law enforcement officer or first responder, you will go to jail.
“The Helping Alleviate Lawful Obstruction Act (HALO) will serve as a deterrent to those who wish to impede, cause harm to a first responder or emergency medical care provider.
“Let’s keep our communities, streets, and heroes safe by passing H.4763.”
