Attorney General Alan Wilson urges YouTube not to remove important channel

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson sent a letter on Monday to the Chief Executive Officers of Alphabet and Google, the parent companies of YouTube, urging them to restore Univision to YouTube TV’s base streaming package. Nine other attorneys general signed Attorney General Wilson’s letter.

“Univision is the largest provider of Spanish-language content in the United States and the number one network among U.S. Hispanics, which makes it a vital service that needs to continue to be available on YouTube TV’s base package,” Attorney General Wilson said. “It’s a lifeline for local news, cultural programming, and critical information that ensures Hispanic families are active and informed participants in our democracy.”

The attorneys general also point out that the decision to remove Univision could raise various legal concerns under state laws. They urge the CEOs to reconsider their decision to move Univision from the base package to a separate tier of channels that costs an additional $14.99 per month.

Joining Attorney General Wilson in the letter are the attorneys general of Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Montana, Ohio, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
