Attorney General's Office Urges South Carolinians to Vote and Be Vigilant on Election Day

(COLUMBIA, S.C. – November 5, 2012) South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson today issued the following statement on the need for voter vigilance during Tuesday’s election:

“Honest and fair elections are the foundation on which our government stands.  State and local officials are taking steps to make sure Tuesday’s election runs smoothly.  Election laws will be enforced and voter intimidation, harassment, impediment or fraud of any sort will not be tolerated.

“But officials can’t be everywhere and they can’t see everything.  We, as citizens, also share responsibility for making sure the voting is honestly and fairly conducted.

“If you observe voter intimidation or voter fraud of any kind, please let the precinct manager know immediately.  Then contact your county election board or the State Election Commission at (803) 734-9060.  If you are unable to reach either office, please contact the Attorney General's office at (803) 737-3953.  Be sure to ascertain as many details as possible, including names, photographs, and or video via camera phone images.”
