Charleston P.D. Arrests Local Man for Child Pornography

Columbia, June 9, 2011 - Attorney General Alan Wilson announced today that Michael Edward Godkin, 49, of

2284 Ashley River Rd, Apt. 1001, in Charleston, South Carolina was arrested on June 8, 2011, by the Charleston Police Department on child pornography charges.

The Charleston Police Department is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children assisted with the arrest.

Godkin is charged with one (1) count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor (§16-15-410), 3rd Degree, a felony offense punishable by up to ten (10) years imprisonment.

Godkin is charged with possession of child pornography. Arrest warrants allege various images depicting minors engaged in sexual activity were found on Godkin’s laptop.

A booking photo is available through the Charleston County Detention Center where Godkin was booked. A bond hearing is scheduled for 2:00 PM, today, June 9, 2011.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.

Wilson stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
