Richland Co. Sheriff Arrests Lexington Man for Solicitation of a Minor
(COLUMBIA, SC – October 1, 2012) South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of William Christopher Spivey (DOB: 03/11/1977) of 141 Driftwood Rd. in Lexington, SC for criminal solicitation of a minor and attempted dissemination of obscene material to a minor under 12 years of age.
Spivey turned himself into the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on September 27, 2012. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Spivey was arrested on five (5) counts of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor (§16-15-342), a felony offense punishable to ten (10) years imprisonment on each count and Attempted Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor 12 or younger (§16-15-355), a felony offense punishable to fifteen (15) years imprisonment.
Arrest warrants allege that between July and August 2012, Spivey, while using the fictitious name "Chris Stephens", sent a 13 year-old girl messages stating he wanted to perform sexual acts on the victim, asking the victim for intercourse, and sent a sexually explicit picture of himself to her.
Attorney General Wilson said the victim’s mother discovered explicit messages on the girl’s Facebook page. The mother immediately notified Deputies.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that based on information investigators have received, they are working to determine if Spivey may have victimized others. They are hoping any additional victims will come forward.
These cases are handled by special investigators and with the utmost compassion and care – it is imperative that anyone who has been victimized by Spivey, or any predator, come forward so the case can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sheriff Leon Lott and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson are asking that if you or someone you know may have been a victim of Spivey, you should call the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Unit at (803) 576-3115.
