This training will highlight four important crime victims’ rights during the criminal process: Presenters will review the rights listed below as stated in the constitution and further explained in the statutes. They will highlight any affirmative action victims have to make to exercise their rights, what victim service providers can do to help enforce these rights, and lastly, what issues could be referred to SCVAN Legal Services. Victim Service Providers will leave this presentation with a greater understanding of victims’ rights and strengthen protections for victims. They will learn how to timely refer a case to SCVAN Legal so that we can most effectively assist victims.

Program Description: SCCADVASA’s Basic Training for Victim Service Providers provides an intensive, interactive learning experience where new victim service providers gain the foundational knowledge and professional skills they need to use a strengths-based approach to provide direct services to Victims of Crime, while also advocating for the rights of survivors, educating to bring about awareness and prevention, and collaborating with allies across the state.
Core Courses: Basic VSPs will be able to complete all 15 hours of their core requirement by completing this training. *You must attend the entire training to receive any VSP Continuing Education Credits. The Basic Training Course is a 15-hour course – 11.5 hours online and the remaining hours are on a scheduled webinar.

Description: The dangers of sex trafficking are often exacerbated by the long-existing barriers of invisibility and jurisdictional barriers that traffickers count on when committing violent crimes. The presenter will explore the critical intersection of sex trafficking and murdered and missing Indigenous relatives and offer support and training around the historical connections of Tribal cultures, impacts, policy, sovereignty, and traditional values, along with the emerging issues in contemporary sex trafficking. These connections are tightly woven between victims/survivors, their communities, and families.

DCVC’s regional trainings are designed to help advocates and service providers navigate their way through the payment and reimbursement process, as well as educate and train professionals on DCVC’s eligibility criteria. There is a four-part payment process, and this process will be reviewed and explained in detail. The information and instructions provided to participants will aid and assist in processing crime victims’ compensation and sexual assault claims, and help advocates and providers have a clearer understanding of the agency’s process. This training will also provide a detailed overview of the Act 141 money.
